Indianapolis Met recently opened a Puma Store for students. The store is open on Fridays and students can redeem their recently earned Puma Points received for exhibiting good behaviors related to the Puma Promise.
Tamika Riggs, Dean of Students, manages and oversees the operations of the store. However, Puma Parents have volunteered by working the store weekly, setting prices, requesting new items and sharing positive student behaviors they see as well.
“It is important to us to get parents involved because it gives them the opportunity to support the school’s positive culture as well,” Dean Riggs said.
Puma Parents Mary Robinson and Crystal Robinson have been faithful volunteers at the Puma Store because they are able to establish relationships with our students.
“This store gives them a sense of pride for doing what is expected of them on a daily basis,” Mary Robinson said. “I have established a rapport with the scholars, so I feel it is important to volunteer to let the scholars know that we care about them also.”
The store currently features snacks, water bottles, Puma gear, school and personal supplies. In the future, the store may expand to include earbuds and more apparel options.
“Ultimately, we would love to give students the opportunity to work at the store as well, and we hope to get more parents involved,” Dean Riggs said. “We want the Puma Store to be one of the ways we focus on maintaining a positive school culture.”
